BC Hydro says removing 1000 already installed Smart Meters is no big deal.

Despite at first suggesting there might be an issue with Smart Meters BC Hydro had a different story to tell when they called CKNW to go on the record.

Gary Murphy Chief Project officer for BC Hydro Smart Meters says the taking off of 1000 already installed meters is “completely normal” for quality assurance.

When pressed on the amount being taken down Murphy said it was no big deal “Yup absolutely yup this is …because the program is broad scale like this, this is part of our overall assurance that we are doing the right thing with regard to the accuracy of our meters and we will continue to do that throughout the program.”

When asked again Murphy repeated removing 1000 Smar Meters is really not unusual.

He said “There is an ongoing sampling program that is underway it is part of a routine quality assurance program that is certainly part of large scale technology initiatives such as this in fact part of our ongoing quality assurance program. You know alot of folks don’t realize we exchange over 40,000 meters a year.”

Murphy adds the cost of double installation is already built into the Smart Meter program.

He says out of some 600 meters undergoing testing, none have shown any signs of malfunctioning.
