Former Global TV reporter Ron Bencze has been handed a four year prison term for sexually abusing a child.
He earlier pleaded guilty to a charge of sexual assault involving a young boy.
The judge says he was disgusted by behaviour, and the only way to properly condemn the terrible act is through a federal sentence, and says the crown recommendation of two to three years behind bars is too low.
He said a fit sentence would be in the range of four to five years, taking into account the guilty plea, the fact he’s a first time offender, the bail conditions, and his lost career as a TV news reporter.
