A developing story in Victoria, where police have been called in and government employees fired for an alleged privacy breach and conflict of interest.
Four employees were fired today from the Pharmaceutical Services division of the Ministry of Health; three others are suspended without pay.
Two contractors have had their contracts, worth a total of four million dollars, suspended.
And the RCMP has been asked by the ministry to investigate allegations of inappropriate conduct, contracting, and data management practices involving ministry employees and drug researchers.
Details are sketchy, but allegations surround the inappropriate release of medical information to drug researchers.
An internal government probe continues, and for now all ministry data sharing with drug development researchers has been suspended; all work on contracts related to drug development is suspended; and all spending by he division now requires the approval of an assistant deputy minister.
