Friends and colleagues mourn celebrity chef

The sudden death of a celebrity chef from North Vancouver has shocked people Anthony Sedlak was recently working with in Toronto.

Kevin Porter is the general manager of Don Valley Hotel and Suites, a chain that hired the 29-year-old Sedlak to update its menus.

“He’s a guy that had a lot of passion for what he did in his industry and you know, he not only had passion for the people that he worked with, but also the customers that he served as well.  He just…had this way of drawing people in.  He was really a beautiful spirit and you know, we’re certainly going to miss him here, that’s for sure.”

Porter adds Sedlak spent nearly 50 of the last 70 days working with the hotel’s main chef in Toronto.

The Food Network Canada – where Sedlak worked as a host of the show The Main – also issued a statement, saying he had a vivacious spirit and fervor for cooking, and will be missed.

Sedlak’s body was found Friday in his North Shore apartment.

His family is reporting he died from an ‘undiagnosed medical condition,’ but the Coroner’s Service has not decided if an autopsy is needed to determine the exact cause of death.
