Girl awarded millions in abuse case

A young girl from Saanich has been awarded a 13 million dollar settlement, after she was allegedly abused as a baby, by the boyfriend of her foster mother.

The details, released today, say the settlement was reached in December.

The little girl, identified just as “E-B” in the documents was just two and a half months old when the alleged intentional assault took place in November of 2008.

A trial was slated to begin in February.

The child suffered “severe traumatic brain injuries” and will need care for the rest of her life.

The girl’s law firm received 2.4 million dollars in legal fees.

Just about all of the settlement was funded by the government, who was one of the defendants and the foster mother’s insurer put in one million dollars.

The boyfriend who allegedly assaulted the girl did not have any assets and contributed nothing.
