A bad landlord is on the hook for 115-thousand dollars after the Province levied the first penalty of its kind under the Residential Tenancy Act.
Housing Minister Rich Coleman says the move follows more than a year of demands by the Government for the landlord to maintain his property
Coleman says while most landlords are upstanding there are a few who need the wake- up call the fine will bring, “Has got somewhat of a shaded record regards as how they do their tenancies. I can’t name the landlord until such time any appeals and that stuff has proceeded but we were posting today an info bulletin basically saying we had actually used this law for the first time and a fine in excess of $ 100,000 has been levied.”
Coleman says the landlord is from Surrey and can have the fine reduced or even cancelled if he meets certain conditions before May 15th.
