Finance Minister Kevin Falcon will introduce legislation today that will outline the transition from the Harmonized Sales Tax to the old P-S-T system.
NDP finance critic Bruce Ralston says the new bill must include all the exemptions that were phased out with the H-S-T.
“Minister has said yes he will do that, but on the other hand he has said that the bill dates from 1948 and he’ll be wanting to modernize it, so what that modernization might mean we’ll have to have a look.”
Ralston is also concerned about the lack of time to debate the bill, which is expected to be well over 150 pages.
