If the Vancouver School Board gets its way, a 100 year old school in the city will be demolished and replaced.
The Board has voted for French immersion school, L’Ecole Bilingue to come down.
Board Chair Patti Bacchus says the main reason for the project is seismic concern, “This is a very high risk building. It’s what we call claybrook construction, very high-risk, problematic construction that is disproportionately riskier than, for example, a wood-framed house; a much greater likelihood of significant damage in the event of an earthquake.”
The project still needs to be approved by the Ministry of Education.
Bacchus says any demolition likely will not happen for at least a year.
