IIO to investigate after early-morning collision in Campbell River

Campbell River mounties will be facing scrutiny from the new civilian-led Independent Investigations Office following an early morning collision.

The IIO is sending five investigators to look into how police handled a situation involving a motorcyclist allegedly driving without a helmet just after 2:00 in the morning.

As police attempted to stop him at high speed, the man collided with an RCMP vehicle, and has suffered serious injuries.

He’s now in hospital.

The mounties are conducting a separate investigation into the actions of the motorcyclist.
