The public memorial for Vancouver community leader Jim Green is set for Saturday afternoon at the Orpheum Theatre.
City Councillor and friend Geoff Meggs says it’s a chance for people to come together and celebrate Green’s contributions.
“There are a lot of people out there who were close to Jim who have not had a chance to get together and share their memories because his illness, his cancer, came on very quickly, so it’s taken a few weeks to put a memorial together.”
A former city councillor, Green championed causes of the Downtown Eastside and helped create the Woodwards project.
His memorial, which starts at 1:30 pm, will feature music from groups such as the Woodwards Community Singers.
Green died in late February after suffering from lung cancer.
He was 68.
