Mom shot in front of kids; ex-husband arrested

VANCOUVER – Vancouver police say a 30-year-old woman was shot dead in front of her two young children before relatives could tackle the gunman, who was the woman’s ex-husband.

Const. Lindsey Houghton says Jenny Le Wong was the mother of a five-year-old girl and a three-year-old boy, who were not hurt in Tuesday night’s attack in the basement suite of an east Vancouver home.

He says relatives of the woman were in another part of the house when they heard the shots and rushed into the suite.

Houghton says an adult male acquaintance — who was also in the suite at the time — was grazed by a bullet when the relatives confronted the gunman, but they managed to get the gun and hold the man for police.

Wong’s ex-husband “Andy” Long Phi Nguyen, who is known to police, is now facing charges of first-degree murder and attempted murder.

Houghton says the shooting has changed the lives of the couple’s children forever. (News1130,The Canadian Press)

Note to readers: This is a corrected version. A previous story said a family member was shot when in fact an acquaintance was wounded.
