Neighbourhood allowed to return home

A neighbourhood evacuation brought about by a house fire Monday afternoon has ended. Fire fighters and police decided residents could return home about 8:45 pm.

The fire in the 5500 Block Greenleaf Road broke out about 3 pm.

It was deemed suspicious after hazardous materials were discovered in the home and that’s when the evacuation was ordered. Homes within a one block radius were affected.

The RCMP Clandestine Laboratory Enforcement and Response Team (CLEAR) attended to assist.

The home damaged in the fire remains secured for further investigation of a suspected clandestine drug lab.

There have been no arrests and the investigation remains active.

One person found at the residence was taken to Lion’s Gate Hospital for assessment of possible smoke inhalation.
