The BC Civil Liberties Association calls it a game changer…
New video has emerged showing the final moments of Paul Boyd’s life – before he was killed by Vancouver Police officers in 2007.
The mentally-ill man was shot eight times – after being armed with a chain, supposedly advancing on officers along Granville Street.
Executive director David Eby says a tourist filmed the fateful moments.
“Some of the final moments are missing from the tape, but what the tape does show very clearly is that Boyd is crawling, that he’s been disarmed, and that he’s surrounded by Vancouver Police Department officers which raises a very serious question… because it goes on for 23 seconds before the final shot, about why they couldn’t use other force instead of shooting him in the head.”
The tape has the association calling on the office of the Police Complaints Commissioner to re-open its file on the case.
The death was the subject of a coroner’s inquest – however the officer involved was not charged.
