Police Complaint Commissioner clears officer in death of Alvin Wright

The Langley RCMP officer who shot and killed 22-year-old Alvin Wright will not face criminal charges.

The Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner says Sgt. Don Davidson’s actions the night of Aug. 6, 2010, were reasonable.

RCMP were called that night to Wright’s home for reports of a domestic dispute.

The office says Davidson confronted Wright, who was armed with a hunting knife and hatchet.

Wright advanced and Davidson could not safely retreat, and so firing on Wright was necessary.

An independent investigation by Vancouver police also cleared Davidson of wrongdoing – which prompted a rally by Wright’s family.

His father says he needs a few days to review the office’s decision.

A coroner’s inquest is set for Monday.
