RCMP say social media alerting drivers where drunk driving roadblocks are set up is actually helping the Counterattack program.
Corporal Robert McDonald says the force wants people to know officers are on the road looking for impaired drivers.”It’s not a secret. We are going to be out there. This tool if it says we are at this location – and we’re at this location and we’re at this location people will look at the application and say hey – they are everywhere – I am not going to drink this year.”
Speaking on the CKNW Morning News McDonald also said roadblocks move constantly during the night so the app will show a number of locations but drivers won’t know which ones are active.
Yesterday the Vancouver Police said tweeting locations could lead to deadly consequences by allowing impaired drivers to be out on the road and avoid being caught.
