RCMP say death likely a domestic dispute

Incredulity abounds at an apartment building near Metrotown after a homicide Thursday.

“Just before 6:30 [in the morning], Burnaby RCMP received a domestic complaint from the residence … and located a deceased female, and an injured female,” said Sgt. Jennifer Pound, spokesperson for the RCMP’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT).

A third woman — who alerted Mounties to the incident — was present when police arrived, added Pound.

The injured female was arrested and is currently the only suspect in the investigation.

Pound believes the death likely owes to a domestic dispute gone badly awry.

Officers were canvassing the area in the hopes of uncovering any new information, or identifying witnesses who may have been within earshot when the confrontation occurred.

Residents say the highrise, located at the 4100 block of Maywood Street near Central Park in the heart of the city, is usually a peaceful place, largely inhabited by senior citizens.
