An RCMP Staff Sergeant who slept with a junior officer in a police cruiser gets to keep his rank.
Travis Pearson was in charge on the RCMP’s Special Investigation Unit, where he slept with Constable Susan Gastaldo in a police car.
For misusing equipment, the RCMP Review Board has docked him 10 days pay, given him a reprimand and ordered him to continue counseling.
But he avoids the more serious repercussions associated with lying to a superior officer and abuse of authority, because those charges were never brought to the board.
In fact, the panel blasted the “appropriate officer” at the time for never bringing those complaints forward, saying if he did, Pearson would likely be demoted.
The state of limitations has passed, and Pearson can never be held responsible for those violations.
