Corporal Catherine Galliford has a tip for women in the RCMP: don’t use the force’s internal health services if you’ve got a problem.
“Quite frankly, I tell everybody this. Don’t go to health services for help. They’re not there to help you, they’re there for the company. So, you go to your own doctors and figure it out from there.”
That advice comes on the back of the Provincial and Federal Government’s Statement of Defence to the sexual harassment lawsuit she filed in May.
That Statement of Defence characterizes Galliford as an alcoholic who didn’t follow through on RCMP treatment programs.
BC’s Attorney-General Shirley Bond says the Province is not directly involved in the filing of the Statement of Defence, despite being named in it.
Bond says they are a defendant as a technical requirement of the Police Act. Bond says the matter is more Federal than Provincial. And in any case, Bond says, as the matter is before the Courts she can’t provide further comment.
