Vancouver-trained jockey, I’ll Have Another take Preakness

The dream run continues for I’ll Have Another and Vancouver-trained jockey Mario Gutierrez.

The pair overtook front-runner Bodemeister to win the Preakness, coming from behind in the home stretch.

They’re one win away now from the coveted Triple Crown, having won the Kentucky Derby two weeks ago.

“Thirty-four years since a horse has won the Triple Crown, and this horse, the way he ran today, he could do it,” says sport historian Tommy Wolski. “This is a nice horse.”

Wolski says the wins also has big impact on the future for Hastings Racecourse, where Gutierrez trained and thousands of fans turned out to watch.

“People just assume that’s a little hole of a racetrack, but actually it’s one of the most picturesque in North America, except it’s a smaller size.”

The final race in the Triple Crown – the Belmont – goes June 9.
