Last week that city released salaries for employees making over 75-thousand dollars in 2011, and some executives got raises in the region of 20 percent.
Jordan Bateman of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation says given the current financial climate, the raises are not going to be popular, “I think most taxpayers would say that the top-end administrators at municipalities make enough money without having big raises every year. And I think that there’s a lot of fatigue right now around the top-end of the wage scale when it comes to the public sector.”
Bateman did however, acknowledge that sometimes municipalities will need to pay more to attract and keep the best people.
