Warm dry weather and fire season arrive together

The wildfire front is starting to show signs of activity as a blaze burns in the northeastern corner of the Province.

Fire Information Officer Jill Chimko says the 150 hectare fire is 150 kilometres away from Fort Nelson.

Chimko says while they are protecting a nearby energy facility, they aren’t fighting the flames, “This fire is in a modified response zone. So basically, it is a fire that we are going to protect the structures when needed and just let it do its thing. It is in a an area that was burnt in 2003 so it doesn’t have a lot of potential to go too far in the sense the area has already been burnt over.”

She says things are drying out and the fire risk is going to rise.
