West Coast Fisheries and Oceans Critic disputes claims of consultation on cuts to marine services

The NDP’s critic for West Coast Fisheries and Oceans disputes the Harper government’s claims of widespread consultation before cuts were made to marine services in BC.

BC’s top cabinet minister in Ottawa, James Moore, says the cuts to the Kitsilano Coast Guard station and marine communication centres shouldn’t have come as a surprise.

Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson disagrees, and so does NDP Critic Fin Donnelly.

Donnelly says the cuts got by without consultation because they’re hidden in the Conservatives’ more-than-400-page Omnibus Budget bill.

“so they want to get all of these massive, far-reaching sweeping changes through in one fell swoop.”

Robertson says City Hall, the police department, the fire hall — none of them knew about the cuts beforehand.
