Michael Apted will replace Curtis Hanson as director on the last two weeks of principal photography on the surfing drama “Of Men and Mavericks” at Walden Media says Deadline.
However there’s no major dispute between the studio and the filmmaker. Rather Hanson recently experienced complications from a heart surgery, which leaves him incapable of finishing the production.
As a result Apted is taking over, but it isn’t sure if the supervision will carry over into the post-production phase. Hanson is expected to fully recover.
Jonny Weston stars as surfing legend Jay Moriarty, who conquered a stretch of treacherous Northern California waves with the help of his mentor (Gerard Butler). Shooting on the film is now scheduled to wrap sometime next month.
