“Beverly Hills Cop” The TV Series?

Having finally given up on family films, Eddie Murphy is returning to other genres and recently told Rolling Stone that the fourth “Beverly Hills Cop” movie in development has been scrapped in favour of another idea.

“They’re not doing it. What I’m trying to do now is produce a TV show starring Axel Foley’s son, and Axel is the chief of police now in Detroit. I’d do the pilot, show up here and there. None of the movie scripts were right; it was trying to force the premise. If you have to force something, you shouldn’t be doing it. It was always a rehash of the old thing. It was always wrong” says Murphy.

Someone who doesn’t agree with that assessment however is the film’s director Brett Ratner, who also directed the upcoming “Tower Heist” which both have been out promoting.

Ratner tells Collider that “I think there will probably be another Beverly Hills Cop but I think more so now than before because Eddie and I now have a rapport and I think it’s a film that…he was very precious about Axel Foley. I think it’s easier because now I know him so well that I can really get him to come around on some of the ideas that have been pitched out. I’m hoping in the next few years there will be a script. Eddie and I are even setting up some more of his ideas… I think we have a little bit of time to come up with a great Beverly Hills Cop.”
