“Dexter” Renewed For Two More Seasons

Showtime has announced that they’ve renewed their hit series “Dexter” for two more seasons.

Michael C. Hall is locked to be returning as the titular Dexter Morgan with production on the seventh season beginning in 2012 in Los Angeles. Both seasons will consist of 12 episodes each to air as usual throughout the final quarter of the year.

The current sixth season is averaging 5.12 million weekly viewers on all platforms, making it the highest rated season yet.

Showtime president David Nevins tells Deadline that the producers have a three year trajectory creatively with the character mapped out, one which includes the current sixth season and the next two years. Once that was figured out the deals quickly locked into place.

Does this mean the show will likely end once this extension is complete? “I’m not going to say with absolute certainty that this is the end, but that is the likely scenario, that the series is moving towards a definite end.”
