She got her start on television in shows like “Roar” with Heath Ledger and the “Touching Evil” remake with Jeffrey ‘Burn Notice’ Donovan, now Vera Farmiga is coming back to the small screen for A&E’s “Bates Motel” says The Live Feed.
Inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960 classic “Psycho”, the show is described as a contemporary exploration of Norman Bates’ formative years and will explore his relationship with his mother Norma.
Farmiga will play Norma, described as “a complicated, passionate and compelling woman who is smart, multidimensional and always capable of surprising people”. It’s expected to be a more layered and grounded portrayal than Olivia Hussey’s over the top paranoid schizophrenic version in the 1990 telemovie “Psycho IV: The Beginning.”
Carlton Cuse (“Lost”) and Kerry Ehrin (“Friday Night Lights”) are producing the series.
