“Gangster Squad” Reshoots In Chinatown

Warner Bros. Pictures has scheduled the week of August 20th for reshoots on Ruben Fleischer’s noir period crime epic “Gangster Squad” reports Heat Vision.

The film, originally slated for early September, was pushed back in the wake of the July 20th massacre in a movie theatre in Colorado.

The reason was that ‘Squad’ featured a key sequence in which mobsters, tommy guns blazing, burst through the screen of Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood before spilling out onto Hollywood Boulevard. In the wake of the massacre, this was seen as insensitive.

Because the set piece was a key component that couldn’t be cut out, it had to be reconceived. Now the scene takes place in L.A.’s Chinatown district. The key players in the sequence – Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, Anthony Mackie, Robert Patrick, Troy Garity and Michael Pena – are all set to come back for the five days of night shoots.

Chinatown was chosen because it offers an iconic L.A. locale which can be made to look like the 1950’s without much extra effort.
