Joseph Gordon-Levitt is set to cut out the most graphic sex scenes from his directorial debut “Don Jon’s Addiction”.
The film, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and is currently showing at Berlinale, is an occasionally graphic romantic comedy in which JGL plays plays a modern-day Lothario addicted to pornography.
Relativity Media is set to release the movie theatrically, and the cuts are necessary for the film to qualify for an R rating. With the money being spent by Relativity, an R rating is essential for the company to make a profit.
At a press conference in Berlin, Gordon-Levitt said: “Yes, we expect we have to do that, and I’ll be getting started on it as soon as I get back… It won’t affect the movie if we change that.”
He adds: “I think it is important that those images are in there, but what precisely you see isn’t that important. What’s important is the rhythm of the film, the repetition of what the Don Jon character does, over and over.”
No word as yet if the eventual home video release will include the original unrated festival cut.
