Though filming has been underway in Los Angeles for a while, MGM has taken until now to get together a legal challenge to the upcoming indie sequel to “Raging Bull” reports Deadline.
The company has filed a seven-page complaint citing breach of contract and four other counts against 91-year old former boxer Jake LaMotta and the producers of the film RB II Productions.
They allege LaMotta had no right to allow RB II Productions the rights to his 1986 sequel book without first offering it to them.
MGM wants the courts to order a halt on production of the film and is seeking compensatory, punitive and exemplary damages – enough to deter them from letting the film see the light of day.
