Toho, the Japanese film distributor of legendary animation house Studio Ghibli, has acquired domain names confirming the titles of the two upcoming projects involving Ghibli’s most esteemed filmmakers.
The next film from “Spirited Away” and “Ponyo” director Hayao Miyazaki is entitled “Kaze Tachinu” (“The Wind Rises”). The next from “Grave of the Fireflies” director Isao Takahata will be called “Kaguya-Hime no Monogatari” (“Princess Kaguya Story”). Official announcements on these films are expected shortly.
‘Kaze’ is adapted from Miyazaki’s 2009 comic about the life of Jiro Horikoshi, the man who designed the infamous ‘Zero’ Japanese fighter plane for use in World War II. ‘Kaguya’ is an adaptation of the Japanese folk tale ‘The Story of the Bamboo Cutter’.
Both are expected to score a release next year in Japan.
