No “Jack Reacher” Sequel Coming?

Short of doing “exceptional” business in key Asian territories, it sadly looks as if Paramount will not be pushing forward with a sequel to the Tom Cruise-led “Jack Reacher.”

The $ 60 million film, based on Lee Child’s “One Shot,” has earned $ 152 million worldwide so far ($ 72M domestic, $ 80M foreign). Sources at the studio say the film has to gross $ 250 million worldwide before the studio would consider doing another one.

With the domestic run of the film petering out, the movie will essentially have to double its foreign take when it hits key markets like China and Japan in February.

Reviews for ‘Reacher’ were quite good, but not great, and unfortunately the film has been overshadowed by higher profile crowd pleasers with awards buzz like “Les Miserables,” “Django Unchained,” “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” and “Life of Pi”.
