“Red Dawn” Remake, “Pixels” Set Dates

Still waiting for the remake of cult 80’s flick “Red Dawn”? Well, you are going to have to wait another year it seems.

FilmDistrict has set a November 2nd 2012 release date for the long-delayed big-budget project which was left on a shelf for over two years due to MGM’s financial issues. FilmDistrict picked up the rights back in September but have only just now set a date.

Chris Hemsworth, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Adrianne Palicki and Josh Hutcherson star in this new take on the story of a Communist invasion on U.S. soil. As reported earlier this year, though the antagonists were portrayed as Chinese during the production, the filmmakers have digitally altered all the flags in the film to now be North Korean.

Meanwhile Sony Pictures has locked in a May 17th 2013 release for “Pixels”, the feature film version of Patrick Jean’s short about 1980s video game characters like Donkey Kong, Tetris, Space Invaders, Frogger and Pac-Man attacking New York City and turning everything they hit into pixels.

Due to its new date, Sony has pushed back Roland Emmerich’s “Singularity” by six months to a November 1st 2013 release date. The move is in response to news the other week that the production had been shut down so screenplay tweaks could be done.
