Reddit Thread Becomes “Rome”

Warner Bros. has picked up the high-concept pitch “Rome, Sweet Rome” from first-time scribe James Erwin says Variety.

The twist in this story is that the sale came about from several postings he did on the online community and social news aggregator website Reddit.com.

The question he posited? “What if a unit of current U.S. Marines are suddenly transported back to ancient Rome and forced to do battle with the Roman legions?”

The story will follow said marines as they deal with one of the world’s most legendary villains. When they return home and find history has changed for the worse, they have to restore it.

Kolbrenner, an author and”Jeopardy!” champion, and Gianni Nunnari will produce.
