Ron Howard Opts Out Of “Lost Symbol”

He’s filmed two of them, now Ron Howard looks to have bowed out of directing the film adaptation of author Dan Brown’s third Robert Langdon adventure “The Lost Symbol” at Sony Pictures reports Deadline.

A source tells the site that “Ron told Amy Pascal and Michael Lynton that he was not going to be directing Dan Brown’s novels anymore. He just didn’t want to do that thing over and over, the same character and the same stories.”

Howard directed both 2006’s “The Da Vinci Code” which made $ 758 million worldwide, and its 2009 follow-up “Angels & Demons” which scored $ 485 million. Sony hired Steven Knight last year to adapt the script for ‘Symbol’.

At this time Tom Hanks, who played Langdon in the previous two films, is not yet confirmed to be returning either.
