Saoirse Ronan Is “Mary, Queen of Scots”

Saoirse Ronan (“Atonement,” “Hanna”) is set to play the title role in the period drama “Mary Queen Of Scots” at Working Title says Deadline.

Michael Hirst (“The Tudors”) penned the period drama about the Scottish queen regnant who once claimed Elizabeth the First’s throne as her own and was ultimately executed for her involvement in plots to assassinate the English monarch.

Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner will produce and shooting aims to kick off next year. Hirst has written for the character before as ‘Mary’ had a small role portrayed by Samantha Morton in 2007’s “Elizabeth: The Golden Age” which Hirst co-wrote.
