Skarsgard, Sanada Ride The “Railway”

Stellan Skarsgard and Hiroyuki Sanada have joined the cast of Jonathan Teplitzy’s “The Railway Man” which begins shooting next week in Scotland reports Variety.

Frank Cottrell Boyce and Andy Paterson’s script is based on former British army officer Eric Lomax’s real-life best-selling account of his torture by the Japanese during the construction of the “death railway” from Rangoon to Bangkok during World War II and his mission decades later to seek revenge on his tormentor.

Colin Firth plays the older Lomax and Jeremy Irvine is the younger version. Nicole Kidman plays Firth’s second wife while Skarsgard is his best friend, both of whom help him to confront his fears and hatred by tracking down and writing to the former Japanese officer (Sanada) he holds responsible and helping him to forgive.

Filming will move on to Thailand and Queensland, Australia once shooting in Scotland wraps.
