TV News: Who, Carrie, Horror, Smash

New Photos
Early promo shoot images of two lovely ladies today, both the first official shots of said actresses in character.

On the left is Jenna Louise Coleman in costume as the still as yet unnamed new companion to Matt Smith’s The Doctor in the second half of the upcoming new season of “Doctor Who”

On the right is 18-year-old AnnaSophia Robb posing as a young Carrie Bradshaw in the “Sex and the City” prequel series “The Carrie Diaries”.

American Horror Story
FX’s “American Horror Story” has been allowed to enter itself into Emmy consideration under the ‘miniseries’ category rather than the ‘drama series’ category due to its anthology format (ie. changing the cast/characters/setting each season).

The move also allows it to avoid contenders with better chances of winning against higher profile cable shows like “Breaking Bad,” “Downton Abbey,” “Boardwalk Empire,” “Homeland” and “Game of Thrones”. [Source: EW]

Smash
Beleaguered NBC is very happy with its new backstage Broadway-themed series “Smash”, so much so they’ve just renewed the musical drama for a second season.

Ratings are solid but not great, an average episode reaching an audience of 7.7 million and a 2.6 rating. That however is a big improvement, at least double in fact, over the season average numbers NBC was scoring in the show’s timeslot.

The good news comes just as news broke over at Deadline that the show’s creator and producer Theresa Rebeck will no longer serve as show runner on the series – but will retain an executive producer credit. [Source: Newsday]
