Universal Keen On More “Bourne,” “Ted”

NBCUniversal CEO Steve Burke says “film franchises and animation” are the key things its Universal Pictures division plans to focus on for the near future says The Hollywood Reporter.

Speaking via webcast from a Merrill Lynch conference in Los Angeles, Burke says developing these two corner stones will allow for stable financials from its film unit.

So what does that mean movie wise? Burke cites further “Fast and Furious” and “Bourne” movies are certainly on the way, along with getting a sequel to this summer’s sleeper hit “Ted” into production “as soon as we can”.

Also lots more toons. Right now they’re releasing one animated film every 18 months. He wants to triple that so they’ll eventually be outputting two animated features annually.
