What are the Biggest Scams in the Entertainment Industry?

The arts and entertainment attract a huge amount of people wanting to get rich and famous out of them. But, of course, there are not as many opportunities as there are hopeful individuals. And when all those people are striving for a chance, a lot of them will be vulnerable to predators wanting to take advantage of them. Unfortunately, the entertainment industry is full of potential traps for people to get snared in.

Whenever there’s a chance to make money, even if it’s illegal and morally dubious, they’ll be someone there to take advantage of it. Luckily, the police are becoming more and more aware of the ways in which fraudsters are scamming people, but they can’t foil every plot that gets concocted. So, here are the biggest scams to be aware of in the entertainment industry.

Talent Scams

The most dubious of all scams in the entertainment industry are talent scams. The talent scam can take many forms, but the outcome is always the same. The fraudsters set up a fake talent agency of some variety and then lure in individuals who are trying to make it in the world of entertainment. The fraudsters then take money from the individual, who is happy to hand it over, and then the fraudsters deliver nothing in return and eventually disappear.

The reason why this is such a disturbing and sinister scam is because it relies on trust and then betrays them. People invest huge amounts of time and money in trying to follow their dream, so when someone scams them, it’s devastating.

Investment Scams

Not everyone entering the entertainment industry is after fame and success though. Some people want to work in it to make some money and do an interesting job in one of the world’s most fascinating industries. These people are just as likely to be scammed as the aspiring actors and singers. If any fraudsters see you coming with money to spend on an investment, they’ll have one to offer you.

It probably won’t be the kind of investment you should get involved with though! There are all kinds of investment scams in the entertainment industry. Somebody might tell you that they’re going to give you the chance to make a fortune, but it’ probably not true. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Who’s Who Scams

You’ve probably never heard of a who’s who scam. But they’re one of the most common scams in the whole entertainment industry. They work by offering an aspiring actor, singer or another kind of entertainer the chance to meet someone who is big in the industry. It might be the head of a film studio, a top talent scout at a record company or the owner of a television network. But you’ll soon find out that once you hand your money over, you’re not going to get the chance to meet any of the people you were promised to meet.
