10 new wildfires spark in B.C. after weekend lightning

Firefighters throughout B.C. are dealing with several blazes after lightning this weekend.

About 10 new wildfires are burning in Pemberton near Whistler and around Port McNeill on Vancouver Island.

West Vancouver crews are fighting a small patch of flames near Horseshoe Bay, between Highway 99 and Whyte Creek.

And Marg Drysdale with the Coastal Fire Centre says a blaze near Squamish in Garibaldi Park is a bit bigger than first thought.

“It will grow. It did grow over the first few days. We didn’t have completely accurate sizing for the first few days, which is not unusual until we were able to get a perimeter on it. We do expect it will grow slightly to the eastern side.”

She adds no homes are at risk.
