Another city to scour new RCMP contract

Add another municipality to the list who won’t be abiding by the provincially- mandated deadline to sign on to the new RCMP deal.

District of North Vancouver Mayor Richard Walton says they need more time to wade through the RCMP contract, “There is not a hope that we are going to meet the end of April deadline. You know, it has taken a long time to get this far and although I am sure the ministry would like to have everybody signed up and moving forward by the end of April, it is just not pragmatic.”

Walton says the surprise RCMP wage hikes might be all the talk in the media, “But that is only one part of the cost of the contract that still remain for us to dig out and understand.”

He says North Vancouver is still waiting for clarification of the costs of the sudden RCMP wage hikes broken down by each detachment.
