BC Attorney-General says marijuana decision up to feds

B-C Attorney-General Shirley Bond says the provincial and federal governments will keep a close eye on attempts to legalize marijuana in Washington State and Colorado.

But bond says it’s still up to Ottawa to make any change to the criminal code in this country.

“This is a federal government issue. There will still be complex discussions in the United States despite the direction that was given by the people last night in Washington and Colorado, so we’ll be monitoring and again I’m sure the federal government will be doing exactly the same thing.”

Bond admits the “discussion” around marijuana is changing, but notes voters in oregon rejected a similar initiative to legalize pot.
