The lawyer for a Langley man convicted in a fatal hit-and-run says his client has decided to narrow the focus of his appeal.
Brent Parent’s lawyer tells CKNW his client won’t challenge his conviction on a 5.5 year prison sentence for the road rage, hit-and-run death of 21-year old Silas O’Brien.
Rather, the focus of appeal efforts will be on a 12-year driving ban.
Lawyer Vincent Michaels has called the ban “harsh and excessive” and says it will impact Parent’s ability to find work later on.
During sentencing, the judge acknowledged it was a long ban, but left the door open for it to be shortened, later on.
The 43-year old Langley man was convicted of criminal negligence causing death, dangerous driving, and failing to remain at the scene.
