Falcon: no new money for wage hikes

He won’t be adding any new money for public sector raises but the finance minister does say he’s willing to look for other savings for a “modest” wage increase.

Kevin Falcon’s told the Vancouver Board of Trade he’s confident there are ways to find some savings within current budgets that could result in a small wage boost for the public sector.

“You know everything should be on the table we’ll be willing to listen to all kinds of ideas I think the critical thing though to understand that what we’re not going to do is add new money because every one per cent increase is 200 million dollars it’s a lot of money and that’s money that grows each and every year.”

Meanwhile Falcon’s announced an expert panel on tax reform that will be chaired by the chancellor of UBC.
