Canada Line bad for taxi drivers

It’s been running for three years and continues to grow its ridership on an annual basis.

But not everyone is praising the Canada Line.

Mohan Singh Kang with the BC Taxi Association says cabbies may be suffering the most.

He claims some companies in the Lower Mainland are reporting a severe loss in business, as high as 30 per cent in some cases.

Many taxi drivers get their highest fare from airport calls, but now commuters have a much cheaper option with the train.

“So it has definitely had a negative impact as for the financials, it’s a concern for the taxi industry.”

More than 100,000 people ride the Canada Line on a daily basis.
