Changes could be coming to policy on carbon neutrality

Changes might be coming as cash strapped schools in BC complain about being forced to pay into the Pacific Carbon Trust.

School boards are among public bodies who are required by the government to either be carbon neutral or buy offsets if they aren’t.

Environment Minister Terry Lake says he has heard the complaints from school boards and others, and the door is open for some changes.

“The Pacific Carbon Trust has done an engagement process with all of the stakeholders in the public sector and with environmental groups and within government so they will be coming forward with recommendations very soon on how we can improve our carbon neutral government policy and I think address the concerns that we have heard.”

Lake says his hope is the recommendations will come before schools are required to pay their newest offsets bill.
