Child and Youth Rep says Merritt killings preventable

The BC Liberals are reacting to a troubling report from Child and Youth Representitive Mary Ellen Turpel-Lafond.

Lafond says had the system been functioning properly, the murder of three children in Merritt, by their father, Allan Schoenborn, could have been prevented.

Minister of Children and Family Development Mary McNeil says changes will be made.

“…….For me I think the report clearly shows there were clearly gaps in the system and  she was calling for leadership and thats what were doing. We are going to take immediate steps and establish a domestic violence unit, that will be cross government, and will deal with complex issues such as domestic violence, mental health and substance abuse.”

Schoenborn killed his his children, Kaitlynne, Max, and Cordon, in Merritt in April 2008.
