Community remembers teens

Hundreds gathered at a Maple Ridge intersection Thursday evening to remember two teens killed last weekend in a car crash.

A candlelight vigil was held at Dewdney Trunk Road and Dunbar Street, the site of the crash that took the lives of 16-year-old Dawson Spencer and 18-year-old Crystal Weaver.

Weaver would have turned nineteen Thursday.

Police say Spencer was speeding and passing cars around 2:30 a.m. last weekend, with two other teens in his van, when he hit a Honda carrying three teenage girls.

Spencer was pronounced dead, while Weaver later died of her injuries.

Police said Spencer only had his learner’s licence, meaning he had been violating it’s conditions at the time of the crash.

Funeral services are planned for Friday and this weekend.
