Crews grapple with avalanches trying to rescue man on Hollyburn Mountain

Rescue crews were called out to Hollyburn Mountain after a man fell down an embankment while snowshoeing at around 4pm Saturday.

West Vancouver Police Staff Sergeant Tim Kravjanski says North Shore Search and Rescue have been in contact with the man.

He says several avalanches have made the situation quite dangerous for rescue workers.

As for how the man ended up down the embankment, Kravjanski says “obviously, either got too close to the edge or something occurred.  There have been avalanches in the area, so it’s possible a ledge gave away and he went down the ledge.”

Kravjanski says witnesses called emergency crews, and the man was able to text.

It has been reported crews have reached the man.

He’s believed to have suffered serious head injuries.
