Defence seeks mistrial in rave case

A mistrial has been requested in the case of a Maple Ridge man accused of distributing child porn online.

The graphic images were recorded during a rave at a Pitt Meadows farm two years ago.

The trial of Dennis Warrington was supposed to wrap up this week, but for three days, lawyers have been arguing over the crown’s request to use better monitors to display the damaging photographs.

The defence claims that would require the re-examination of witnesses who’ve already given testimony.

The 21-year old accused doesn’t deny he posted images on his Facebook page of sexual activity between two teens in September of 2010, but others who did the same thing were quicker to remove them from their sites.

Warrington also claims the pictures are harmless because they were taken in public and the alleged victim was already 16, the age of consent.

Because of scheduling conflicts, this trial has been adjourned until November 27th.

The judge is expected to reserve her decision on whether to order a new trial.
